Today, we are in the small fishing village of Iseltwald in Switzerland. Before diving into the village's stunning nature, I'd like to share some historical insights.

Iseltwald is located in the Interlaken region, within the Canton of Bern. The village was first mentioned in 1146. During the Middle Ages, a castle was built on the peninsula near the village for the Lords of Matten. (I’ll mention the castle again later 😊) Despite being attacked in 1342, the village continuously fought for its existence. Finally, since 1948, it has been part of the Interlaken region.

In historical times, the economy was based on fishing from Lake Brienz, farming in the valleys, seasonal mountain livestock farming, and agriculture in the mountain meadows. Nowadays, tourism, agriculture, fishing, and timber harvesting have become the main sources of livelihood.

As mentioned, Iseltwald is located in a delta on the southern shore of Lake Brienz. The village has a population of around 400, and the main language is German.

So, what can you do in Iseltwald in a few hours?

When you arrive, a fairytale village awaits you, nestled by one of the most beautiful lakes in the country, surrounded by the Swiss Alps. If you arrive by car, there are parking spaces above the village center, and it’s only a 2-3 minute walk down to the center.

First, you can take a short stroll around the pier area and capture some fantastic photo opportunities. If you wish, you can join a boat tour on Lake Brienz, where you’ll witness the unique village views nestled at the foot of the mountains. If you plan to stay longer in the village, you can try various water sports on the lake.

The pier area also served as a filming location for a South Korean drama. Many scenes, such as the one where the main character continues as a pianist in a music school, were filmed here for the series "Crash Landing on You." Therefore, it has become a popular spot for Korean tourists.

Now, let’s talk about the castle that appears in all the village’s scenic photos…

Unfortunately, this castle, located in a perfect spot, is not open to visitors. It is used as a rehabilitation center, so you can only admire it from a distance.bewundern.

You can also take a short walk around the village, enjoying the picturesque setting of the mountain houses, the stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and the crystal-clear waters of the lake. In short, you can truly refresh your soul in these few hours.

No matter what time of year you visit the village, the scenery will surely captivate you. In summer, when the weather is warm and sunny, you’ll see Lake Brienz shining even brighter. In winter, the snow-covered village will transport you back to your childhood with its postcard-perfect appearance.
