Grindelwald, known as Switzerland's romantic village, captivates you with its stunning nature even before you enter the village. If it's your first visit to Switzerland, you might feel like you've stepped into a fairy tale.

This ancient mountain village is believed to have been first settled in the 12th century. Therefore, it's a popular destination for tourists interested in culture and history. The wooden architecture you see as soon as you enter the village is one of Grindelwald's most important cultural heritages. Another popular spot is the Grindelwald Mountaineering Museum. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to visit, but it could be a great suggestion for enthusiasts. Even if you only make a short stop in the village, don't forget to take in the view of Jungfrau, the highest mountain in Europe accessible by train.

Since there are so many activities to do in Grindelwald, it's a popular vacation destination in every season. Reaching the First and Kleine Scheidegg peaks from this village makes it a hub for outdoor sports. In the summer, there are trekking routes, and in the winter, it is one of the country's most important ski resorts, which explains the large number of tourists.
Since we could only spend a short time in this romantic village, we could only take a brief walk. However, I will provide information on the activities you can do here. I definitely think you should allocate more time.
After short walks around the village, we recommend heading to the First peak. It is exactly 2168 meters high and takes about 25 minutes by cable car. One of the activities you can do here is the First Cliff Walk. This walk along a path built on the edge of high cliffs offers breathtaking mountain views. For those with a fear of heights, it might be a bit challenging, but I’m sure you won’t regret it after seeing the views.
Another activity is the First Flieger, which is actually a type of zipline. We definitely recommend this activity. The unique scenery will make you forget that you’re soaring at great heights.
If you prefer a more tranquil activity, you can opt for a walk by the Bachalpsee Lake. This lake, located at the First peak (at 2168 meters), offers not only stunning views but also the opportunity to enjoy time among mountain goats and alpine flowers.
Another activity is the First Glider. This four-person activity lifts you up before you glide down, ready to soar under the talons of an eagle…
If you want to enjoy a fast-paced journey through lush mountain meadows, Rodelbahn is perfect for you. You descend 725 meters with this mountain coaster, but don’t worry—you control the brake. So, you decide the speed at which you go down, and then you’re taken back up again. Whether you’re a child or an adult, I can guarantee that fun is assured.
Lastly, we should mention the Mountain Car activity. This activity reminds me of the three-wheeled bicycles we used as kids. 😊 That’s why, for me, it’s the most enjoyable activity among them all. No joke—gliding down the mountain on your three-wheeled mountain bike while enjoying the scenery will surely be very fun…

After all these activities, it’s time to return to Grindelwald by cable car and choose a nice restaurant for a meal.
If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend you first read my article titled “The Enchanting Villages of the Swiss Alps.”
