If you haven't visited Switzerland yet, don't worry about where to start. Every corner of this country boasts stunning natural landscapes, and its cities are a must-see in my opinion. But before exploring the cities, I recommend you first experience the majestic peaks of the Alps and the charming villages nestled at their foothills. Unlike any place you've visited so far, I'm sure that in Switzerland's picturesque towns and villages, you'll encounter a new breathtaking view with every step you take.

Of course, there are many towns in the Swiss Alps that are worth visiting. However, in today's article, I'll be talking about the villages and towns in the Bernese canton that you absolutely must see. If everyone is ready, it's time to embark on a delightful journey to these villages that are beyond your wildest dreams.

GRINDELWALD

Known as Switzerland's romantic village, Grindelwald is actually a glacial village. It is one of the largest and oldest villages in the Jungfrau region. As soon as you enter the village, the sound of the rushing waterfall, the lush green meadows, and the magnificent mountain peaks will leave you in awe. With so many activities to do in this village, it's no surprise that it remains a popular tourist destination year-round. In the summer, it's a must-visit spot for sports and nature enthusiasts. In the winter, it's one of Switzerland's major ski resorts.

INTERLAKEN

Interlaken, one of Switzerland's hidden gems, is situated between two stunning lakes (Lake Thun and Lake Brienz). If you don't want to stay in a village, you might prefer this small town, which is close to the villages. You can enjoy pleasant strolls with the backdrop of the Bernese Alps.

ISELTWALD

Iseltwald is a small fishing village located on the southern shore of Lake Brienz. There are many hiking trails available to explore the surroundings and walk along the riverbank. A delightful way to reach this village is by taking a boat tour on Lake Brienz. It's impossible not to be captivated by the lake's turquoise color and crystal-clear waters. If you like, you can enjoy the view from the restaurants and cafes along the lake.

SPIEZ

This beautiful town is located on the shores of Lake Thun. It hosts stunning views with its medieval castle and church. I recommend you visit the balcony area within the castle to take in the turquoise lake and vineyards. In addition to its historical richness, you can also engage in water activities like paddle surfing, sailing, and more in the bay. If you decide to stay in this town, be prepared to wake up to a peaceful morning with views of the turquoise lake nestled at the foot of the Alps.

LAUTERBRUNNEN

Lauterbrunnen is home to a total of 72 waterfalls cascading from the Swiss Alps. The most famous of these, Staubbach Falls, has inspired poetry, and I must say it's postcard-perfect. In this region, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, I recommend taking a peaceful walk in the early morning hours. And while you're here, you absolutely must visit Mürren village, located at an elevation of 1,650 meters! Keep reading to learn more about Mürren village...

 MÜRREN

I should mention that you're in for some spectacular cable car and train views as you head up to this village. Since Mürren is a car-free village, you can easily enjoy breathtaking views of the Alps. It's hard to believe these views are real. If you wish, you can also take a cable car from Mürren to Allmendhubel and enjoy views of the famous three peaks of the Alps: Eiger, Jungfrau, and Mönch. There's even a restaurant and a children's playground here. So, you can sip your drink with an Alpine view at the summit while your child enjoys some fun time.
