Today, we’re heading to one of the most romantic cities in Europe, Heidelberg, for a bit of nostalgia and a touch of romance. With its historic buildings, rivers, lush green banks, and lovely walking areas, this charming city will surely make you feel a whirlwind of emotions.

You can start your trip on Heidelberg’s busiest street, Hauptstraße. Every time we visit, we park our car at the shopping mall at the beginning of the street and explore on foot. After all, most of the attractions are within walking distance .
If you’re planning to go on a weekend or during public holidays, don’t be intimidated by the crowds of tourists on this street. To be honest, most of the city’s businesses are located here. Boutiques, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, lemonade stands, small stores—you name it! In December, you’ll even find Christmas markets set up along this street.

Thanks to Heidelberg University, one of Germany’s oldest universities, the city is brimming with students. So, don’t just stick to Hauptstraße—wander into the side streets where you’re bound to discover quaint gift shops, cozy cafes, and lively pubs. These narrow lanes will give you a peaceful and serene walking experience.
At the end of the street lies Heidelberg’s main square, which leads to the Karl-Theodor Bridge. Spanning the Neckar River, this bridge connects the two halves of the city and offers breathtaking views. The green spaces nestled within the historic surroundings on either side of the river are simply stunning. After crossing the bridge, follow the winding path known as the “Snake Path” to reach the Philosopher’s Way. If you love walking and photography, you’re in for some jaw-dropping scenery!

Now, let’s talk about one of Heidelberg’s highlights: Heidelberg Castle. You can reach it from the city square either on foot or by funicular. Of course, walking up means enjoying the beauty of nature along the way, though be prepared for a bit of an uphill climb 😊. The stunning views, the castle’s rich history, and its magnificent gardens—so inviting you’ll wish you could live there—will leave you saying, “I have to come back here.”

But Heidelberg isn’t just about these sights! Here’s a list of more places worth visiting. You can find detailed information about each one in my blog post, “Places to Visit in Heidelberg.”
